Archive Everyone Together - Imogen Harvey-Lewis
Imogen Harvey Lewis is a freelance illustrator who was commissioned to design the artwork situated in the car park, Archive Everyone Together and in the entrance foyer, the Donor Tree.
Archive Everyone Together can be found on the Bridge House wall to the right as you enter through the car park barrier.
The image is printed on Dibond (a lightweight signage medium) with a brushed aluminium finish for the background. Dibond is designed for outdoor use.
Some of the heads have been printed separately and hover over the background to give it a dynamic 3D and lively effect.
For her research Imogen worked with young people from Kingsholm Primary School. To begin the process of getting ideas for the artwork, pupils used their own family history as inspiration for the wall design.
Pupils working with Imogen
Imogen chose to focus on the people that make up our present day and historic community.
The heads represent ‘every person’. They are non specific and not specifically gendered or aged. They are each made up of interlocking fragments, reflecting the layered information, documentation and history that the archives holds, relevant to us as individuals and to us united as a county wide community.
Examples of the heads
The drawing style is more urban and ‘street’ to match the outdoor city location. Imogen wanted a contrast to the gentler, more homely style of the Donor Tree mural in the foyer.
Imogen wanted her design appeal to all, but have a young adult/adolescent demographic in mind. She wanted to reflect the Heritage Hub’s desire to be overtly open to all ages.
The title ARCHIVE EVERYONE TOGETHER is simple and inclusive and intended to capture a positive, encouraging and inviting call to use the Heritage Hub that is there for us all.
