Coronavirus update

We're pleased to announce that from the 4th August Gloucestershire Archives will re-open to the public.  We've had to make some changes to the way we work, and you can see more details about our new arrangements on our Covid recovery page.

You will need to book your documents in advance.

At the moment Gloucestershire Family History Society remains closed.

If you're not able to make it in, have a look at Gloucestershire Heritage Hub for ideas and links to help you #ExploreYourArchiveAtHome.

Victoria County History

The Victoria County History (VCH)Opens new window is a national project to write an authoritative history of all the parishes in England.

To see if your Gloucestershire parish has already been covered, please check the downloadable document on the right.  All published volumes are available to consult at Gloucestershire Archives.  Most volumes are also available online.  If the parish you seek is not in the document, it has not yet been been researched by the VCH.

The Gloucestershire County History Trust oversees the fund-raising and research in Gloucestershire.  Volume XIII launched during the 2016 Heritage Open Festival, and work on volumes XIV, XV and XVI is ongoing.  We are grateful to a dedicated team of volunteers who are supporting the preparation of these volumes.

If you want to help with the fund-raising to see further parish histories completed for Gloucestershire, please support the County History TrustOpens new window.
